GIF is limited to 256 colors by its age; the conversion cannot invent colors the GIF already lost, but it does give you a far smaller, universal still image.

Frequently asked questions
Can I choose which GIF frame gets converted?
The tool converts the first frame, which is the representative one in most GIFs. Extracting a specific frame would require a video or GIF editor.
Is the animation preserved?
No: JPG and PNG are still formats by definition. The result is a fixed image; your original GIF is untouched.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens inside your browser using the Canvas API: your files never leave your device, there are no upload queues, and the tool even works offline once the page has loaded.
